profile

hello all,

This is the phd-webpage/blog of Marcel Cornelissen. I am a fieldarchaeologist and a phd-student at the Universität Zürich, Switzerland. These pages will inform you about my phd and more or less related subjects. It is, however, very well possible that I will diverge from this sooner or later. Maybe keeping you informed, will also help me to stay focused a little.

My research concerns the mesolithic – neolithic transition in Pre-Alpine Central Europe and is loosely centered around the use-wear analysis of the chipped stone material and the question of `pre-neolithic´ agriculture. An other main focus of my research are in the developments in the chaîne opératoire during the Boreal and Early Atlantic. How the social, economic and cognitive changes are reflected in the lithic technology and the social and natural environment and the way these can help us understand the processes observed in the studied periods, is also of great interest to me. A large part of this research will focus on the use-wear analysis of the site Arconciel/La Souche, Ct. Fribourg, Switzerland and other sites.

My academic interests are much wider though and include:

· the Late Glacial and early post-Glacial archaeology of Europe

· evolutionary approaches to archaeology

· the early Neolithic of the Near East

· the evolution of human cognition

A brief spell in museology at the Reinwardt Academy, Amsterdam, NL preceeded my career in archaeology. After a BA/Archaeology at the University of Leicester, UK and a MA/Cognitive Evolution at the University of Reading, UK, I gained broad archaeological experience, working on project-base with many institutes and companies at more then 35 projects in 6 countries. During the past 6 years this was mostly in a managing position. In the beginning of 2008 I started a part-time PhD at the Universität Zürich, Switzerland.

Besides my field work, me and R. Gubler also do translation work of archaeological and archaeology related texts for publications, museums etc. We work in English, German and Dutch. We would be very happy to receive your enquiries about our work.

Leave me a note when you are interested in my full CV or when you have any questions about our translation work.
